Job Description

The Role:

Hours of Work: 8.30am-2.30pm (Monday to Friday)

(38 weeks term time plus 1 week staff training)

Reporting to: Business & HR Manager

As part of our on-going school development, we are seeking to appoint a kitchen assistant to work with our school cook in the preparation, cooking, setting up and serving of lunches, cleaning of kitchen and kitchen equipment.

The successful candidate would need to be adaptable and able to work on their own initiative.

The School:

Bridge House Independent School is graded as ‘Outstanding’ following our last OFSTED inspection. We are currently registered for 105 pupils between the Grantham Road campus, Carlton Road campus and Great Fen Road campus, ranging from KS2 to KS5. All of our pupils have found themselves outside of the mainstream school environment for one reason or another and deemed as vulnerable.

Essential Requirements

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Be able to provide 2 child/vulnerable group based referees.
  • A current enhanced DBS Certificate or a willingness to complete one.
  • Driving license and use of own vehicle.

Responsibilities include:

  • The post-holder will assist the school cook with food preparation, cooking, serving meals and general kitchen duties including cleaning and dish washing.
  • Maintaining food handling and personal hygiene standards to ensure compliance with food hygiene regulations.
  • Transporting lunches between the three school campuses.

Whole school duties and responsibilities

  • Comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and General Data Protection Regulation, reporting concerns to the appropriate person.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/aims of the school.
  • To comply with school’s practice, policies and procedures.
  • Be responsible for the application of the Health and Safety practices within the school, sharing a common responsibility for Health and Safety within the school as a whole.
  • To work effectively as part of a team and carry out such other duties as may be designated that is commensurate with the responsibility of the post.

  • Actively ensure the safeguarding and well-being of young people

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of nutritional needs of young people and the required quantity and type of food edible for young people. At least one year of experience with cooking and preparing menus.
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate
